    In public schools the standard is rarely a “figment of the instructor’s imagination.” No, it’s a figure of the *government’s* imagination. In most cases we test for whatever the state or local standards tell us to test for. Anything less and you can kiss your federal funding goodbye. Thanks, No Child Left Behind!

    uhm, what sort of methods do you propose for separating the smarter, harder workers from the rest of the pack? As you argue, grading papers is “subjective”, however, college profs. hold PhDs and therefore can recognize good writing and research. They practice grading while earning their high degrees. Maybe I am biased because I always got good grades even though I nearly dropped out of high school as well (might have had something to do with not being challenged….why would Einstein need college when he is smarter than the profs?) Even if the grades are “arbitrary” as you say, the real world is based upon bench marks and performance, and if you can figure out how to earn a good grade, you can probably figure out a job and be a good employee.

    You should try your best, but learning is much better than not learning. I took all the hardest classes and got Cs all around, but I learned a heck of a lot more than if I had taken all the easiest classes and gotten As.

    Also, employers don’t look at grades. If you don’t plan on going to college, all you need to do is pass. If you’re in college and don’t plan on getting a master’s… all that matters is passing.

    That obviously doesn’t mean blow off all your classes, but if you get a bad grade, get over it! As long as you learned something (and pass), that’s all that counts.

  8. below 2.5 gpa kid

    dude i have a 2.45 gpa am i gettin’ into college? like i know people with 2.5’s and above get in and stuff, but what about 2.4’s and below? do us niggas still have a chance?

  9. Hello Jello

    Um hey there, below 2.5 gpa kid. No, you’re not entirely fucked for having below a 2.5. just partially. Although 2.5 gets you into most local colleges and 3.5 gets you into most prestigious colleges and 4.0 gets you into Ivies, 2.4 and below gets you into community colleges. Community College is great for a start! just don’t get your gpa below 2.0 bro… remember
    1.0 = no graduation, no college
    2.0 = community colleges
    2.5 = universities and private universities (mainly local ones)
    3.5 = well known universities (local or out of state)
    4.0 = Ivy League universities
