September 11, 2001 As Seen From Space

Collected by Internet Pop Culture

We’ve seen so many shocking and startling images of 9/11 from the perspective of people on the ground but what did that terrible day look like from space?

As you will see from the following photos the chaos taking place in lower Manhattan was very visible from more than 250 miles above Earth inside the International Space Station.

View of the World Trade Center days later from the North.

One of a series of pictures taken of metropolitan New York City (and other parts of New York as well as New Jersey) by one of the Expedition Three crew members onboard the International Space Station (ISS) at various times during the day of September 11, 2001. The image shows a smoke plume rising from the Manhattan area. The orbital outpost was flying at an altitude of approximately 250 miles. The image was recorded with a digital still camera. This still image, taken from video sent from the International Space Station on Tuesday, shows a smoke plume rising from the Manhattan area of New York City. (via globalsecurity.org)

The smoke plume extending into Jersey City, New Jersey.

Shifting winds move the smoke plume into Brooklyn and Long Island.

Does anyone else think that placing so much of an emphasis on 9/11 actually emboldens terrorists around the world to commit another one (or at least use that event as a rallying cry for anti-American/Western forces)? I AM NOT TRYING TO BE INSENSITIVE but weren’t we trying to show that whatever terrorists did wasn’t getting to us? Well, referencing 9/11 as if it was the present day Holocaust does nothing but show that (obviously) we are emotionally scarred from the events that transpired and we are (obviously) scared it’s going to happen again. Why wear flag pins, distribute “never forget” memorabilia and make September 11 into a pseudo-holiday? Just let the victims grieve, reference it like any other tragedy and let Homeland Security and the military do their job in peace. Terrorists around the world must be smiling smugly today knowing that they hurt us bad because we as a nation are so obsessed about 9/11.

“Terrorists around the world must be smiling smugly today knowing that they hurt us bad because we as a nation are so obsessed about 9/11.”

That’s only true if all Americans act like a bunch of desperate wusses and cry and moan about it.

We can show terrorists the world over that we were affected. That we care. That we are angry and we’ll kick their asses back to a hole in the ground, in their squalid little bergs, and bury them with a slab of bacon shoved up their back sides, and we won’t give a crap how many virgins serve them. Hopefully they’ll be pigs that would live with them in hell!

How does that make you feel????

I’m tired of the pictures of trade center. Why doesn’t any body post pics of a smokin’ Pentagon???? That’s what’s interesting!!! Wasn’t it hit by a plane as well?????

We should stop letting the media let them know what we’re doing in regards to the ongoing conflict, they know when, where, how and how many to expect, what’s the point ?how can we beat them if they know it’s coming. Revenge is a dish best served cold.the element of surprise gives us the upper hand, think about it.

@ Greg:::::Well, referencing 9/11 as if it was the present day Holocaust ………

Thousands and thousands of people die everyday, but it goes unnoticed. Do u realise how the rest of the world looks at u?? :::: How self-obsessed these Americans are. Sighs.
