A Dog’s Purpose

Nice story, but we Americans really are too obsessed with dogs. Honestly, you can train a variety of different animals to shower us with similar levels of love and affection. I do want to emphasize TRAIN because most people who have owned a dog know that there’s a lot of training and reinforcement involved in molding it into the ideal pet. We put up with all their antics and (if you think about it) psycho behavior because they’re cute.

Wow, nice 1st comment, Douchey McDouche. Tell me another animal that loves you as apparently and unconditionally as a dog.

@Piece A budgie will unconditionally love you if you love it. It will think you are the greatest thing ever

But Michael is right in some respects, many people are not good at handling their dogs, they try and reason with it and give it affection even when it is disobedient. Thus the cycle of poor leadership begins…

Nice, but it is so small and blurry,it is a hard read.Fortunately,it can be pulled up on the net quickly.

Um, I think yall missed the point of the story.

And a budgie? Are you fuc%ing serious? Next your going to start talking about how awesome cats are and how great Obama is.

Also, we put up with our kids “antics and (if you think about it) psycho behavior” so does that mean we should not be obsessed with our children and just get a budgie?

And show me a budgie that will lead a blind person, detect bombs and drugs or gives its own life, without a second thought, to defend yours.

Maybe someone should reread the story.

    A fuc%ing budgie? Stupid!

What the hell is wrong with you people. Lets reveal the underlying theme of the story. A child’s’ innocence is very appealing because they have such a naive (cute) perspective on things. When you grow up and face reality suddenly you lament the fact that you can’t be a child anymore, oblivious to the strife of the world. Ironically enough what does the first few people comment about? They take an inspiring and feel-good story and look at the glass half empty. Maybe the real issue is that some people cannot enjoy the small things in life. Even a pessimistic view on this article could come to a conclusion like “ignorance is bliss.” But an almost unrelated comment about the fact that “we Americans really are too obsessed with dogs”? Come on man, maybe you meant to say “we Americans hate everything around us.” Sorry for exploding all over this topic, it just bummed me out when the initial responses from American’s like me are so negative and demanding of attention. Way to appear witty and give us your bullshit insight…oh what this?…the first guy’s name was “Micheal Vick.” What a badass.

I got goosebumps reading that, I love when children speak their minds and end up saying something really insightful and amazing.

Also I do agree with Michael somewhat, many animals can love just as much as Dogs. I used to have a parrot who loved me unconditionally and would do anything just to spend time with me. I also have a cat who is just as wonderful and I’m sure if my animals could save me from a fire or do something that would make me happy they would.

I’ve been through hard times in my life and everytime my cat has come into my room and stayed by my side as long as it took for me too feel better.

Oh and by the way Jason there is thousands of cats that have saved lives and I’m sure smaller pets like birds and cats have saved many peoples lives purely from being there for them in times of need.

Other animals may “love” you unconditionally but when was the last time you saw a bird protect their home from an intruder. Or like my dog kill a raccoon that was trying to eat your chickens…or catch a ball, or go swimming…Americans may be obsessed with our dogs, but for good reason. After centuries of domestication, they are THE human companion…no other animal has been domesticated as long. Even cats which have been living amongst humans since the Egyptians, werent domesticated till long after that….they were just revered for their ability to hunt, and keep grain storage free of rodents, and thus fungus. In conclusion….DOGS kick ass……other animals are great, but just dont compare as a companion animal.

Hey — what a sad comment section to a good good thematic story.

Anyway — why Americans obsessed — I guess the world around is obsessed and why just dogs, they are obsessed with cats, horses, fishes!, turtles, snakes, birds…

Although I love all animals, fact remains Dogs are the best — and that does not mean to say you should love a dog — there are people who can’t and it is best if they don’t.

I’m sorry for being a part of this comment-debate and my only comment is (as if I havent already said the above said things!)
Nice nice story, depending on the way you take it, Inspiring, moving and make-you-happy kind of theme.

For those that must overcomplicate, It’s a simple story. Take it for what it is. There is no need to analyze the story beyond face value. It’s warm, it’s touching.

Yes there are plenty of other animals that can do the same. Just change the dog’s role in the story with Mr. Bigglesworth the Cat or Clucky the Parrot and it will be the same.

Simple story? Well suck on this one…
An Indonesian woman was raped in Saudi by 46 men (yes..46), including a police Officer who was supposed to aid her after her initial rape. The men are being arrested now, and awaiting a harsher punishment than the usual dick cutting that happens in Saudi when facing rape: medical tests after the rape have shown that the victim had AIDS before they raped her, so they are all probably infected now.
I bet she had a dog with aids that loved her too awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
